DOMINIQUE SHELTON ~ A HEALING HAND AND PRESENCE

The coronavirus pandemic has been a disruptive force in our world and in our personal universe. When I ask friends here on Maui “how are you doing?”, the general answer is essentially that it’s a roller coaster ride, continually going up and down with no seeming end in sight.  It seems so many are on edge, either snapping at family members or anguishing within.  Personally, I’ve noticed that my lower back pain has increased and anxiety has been heightened, especially since we can’t see in the future right now. So, I decided to take the next best step and see a somatic body worker…and maybe get a little relief.  Instead, I got a lot of relief for which I am extremely grateful.

Dominique Shelton is a Maui Meadows neighbor with lots of transformational understanding, principles and tools in her tool bag.  Dominique believes that instead of trying to fend off pain, we should simply begin to get clear with our intentions for healing, because in many ways, it’s an inside job. The key, initially, is to literally give the brain and nervous system a positive message, a clear intention. For example, I came with the desire for a pain-free back which Dominique helped me translate to a back that is resilient, strong and at ease as I navigate through these changing times.  With a deft touch and amazing insight, she helped me physically and emotionally reorient and redirect to healing my body, mind and spirit.

Dominique’s overriding approach is to listen and support our vital life force which has been severely impacted during these past months as we strive to rise above our fears about the virus, our halted careers and dwindling bank accounts.  As she works, Dominique listens and supports the person’s own innate wisdom and health to reorganize to more optimal resilient functioning.  While on her table, it felt like all the various muscles, bones and organs in my body were part of an orchestra that, when well-tuned, could create a beautiful melody.  Now I’m feeling ready to take this orchestra on the road and to get back into life in a new way.

We all need people to hold presence deeply and be with us and support us on the journey. Dominique’s deft touch and profound insights have helped me move along, and I’m happy she is right here in Maui Meadows.  Dominique has an impressive 45 year background in body work and the healing arts.

 About  Dominique’s Journey

A client asked me, “ Why do you do what you do?“ If you look at my business card, It says it all. I love supporting people in their journey metamorphosing into who they truly are,  It reminds, empowers and supports my journey, It gives meaning to my life.

Dominique began at the uniquely opportune moment, to study at a time when massage and bodywork were at the beginning of the Human Potential Movement. At this fortunate time she had access to some of the Great Teachers who shaped the field and were available.

She started doing massage with minimal training and lack of awareness of body mechanics. Her own health became very problematic. This led to an an intensive 25 year journey of deeply needed personal work, mixed with practical professional curiosity while studying styles that she found effective and resonant with her own health and her spiritual path. Initially it was as a seeker and then as a practicing Buddhist. As Peter Levine said, “Research is Me search,”

She also spent months/years studying in monasteries, retreat centers and doing pilgrimage in India, Nepal, Tibet and the US.

Her lay teachers and mentors include:

Jim Asher, Dr. Jean Pierre Barral, Mariana Bentson, Roy Bonney, Ray Castallino, Linda Ceasara, Mantak Chia, Dr. Bruno Chikly,

Diane Poole Heller, Mark Hochweinder, Maria Lucia Holoman, Ron Kurtz, Dr. Peter Levine, David Little, Frank Lowen, Christopher and Mary Louise Muller, Pat Ogden, Virginia Satir, Jan Sultan, Dr. Milton Trager
